Marina
del Rey Harbor is located in Santa Monica Bay about 15 miles southwest
of downtown Los Angeles. Constructed in 1960 on an 804 acre site, Marina
del Rey is the largest artificial small-craft harbor in the world.
403 of those acres are water, 401 are land. The breakwater is 2,340
feet long and there is 2 miles of main channel (1,000 feet wide, 10-20
feet deep). |
|
With 3 miles of basins , 6 miles of landscaped
road, and 10,000 permanent residents, this is the "ultimate" example of
joint planning and implementation of a major metropolitan recreation
site.
Amenities
for boaters include 6,100 boat slips, beach-launching for small boats
and a launch ramp for trailered boats, a sailing basin for boats
and windsurfers, dry storage, a Sea Scout base, repair yards, fuel dock,
pump-out stations, boat brokerages and charter businesses and Guest Docks
for visiting boaters!
