Oceanside is a cool
little harbor located in northern San Diego County just south of the Orange
County line, 36 miles north of the San Diego sea buoy. The port to the
south is Mission Bay, San Diego and Dana Point is to the north about 23
miles. A great stopping point for those returning north from the Ensenada
race with easy fuel access or a wonderful weekend destination from both
Newport or Dana Point. Many times we've called back to say, "We're in Oceanside,
see you tomorrow!". It's a small haven (home to about 900 boats only) and
laid out so that you can walk from one end to the other and just get your
sea legs stretched nicely. With a wide variety of places to visit from
the hospitable Oceanside Yacht Club with their great fireplace and friendly
folks to Joe's Crab Shack, with Jolly Rogers and Monterey Bay Cannery in
between, there is always something to do or nothing to do if you so please.
The harbor patrol like to be called the Home Port-Harbor Police and will help you
get in if you have any doubts or the seas are rough. It can be tricky getting in and out, but once you've
done it, you learn!
