primary residence, cruising vessels, charter vessels being used for sportfishing
or sightseeing such as water taxis, as well as commercial vessel coverage

Most marinas require that you carry insurance on your boat in order
to keep it in their marina. Coverage will vary depending on the marina
and some will require additional liability if you liveaboard. Lenders also
require financed vessels to carry a complete insurance package. Be sure
to ask for additional coverage or a rider covering any "unusual" electronic
equipment you may have on board, such as a computer, free-standing stereo
system, television, VCR or telephone equipment. Also check for coverage
on your dinghy, equipment you may lose overboard, coverage during races,
in foreign waters and even in certain times of the year, such as hurricane
season or ice season and the dreaded questions regarding salvage, replacement
and the like. There's a lot to insurance and a good agent is probably someone
you want on your side. Not being informed as to what your coverage is and
is not can be a costly lesson in asking a few questions. |
